Good Morning!

Good morning, I hope your day is going well so far. We had a wonderful service last night as we studied being filled with the Spirit.

After our study, we had a time of prayer and surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ over every area of our lives.

Many came to the alter to do business with the Lord and I sensed God working in our midst.

Continue to pray for one another as we grow together toward Christlikeness.

We also had a special called Conference to vote on the purchase of a 15 passenger van, and it was voted on and passed. Praise the Lord!

I want to say thanks to all those who gave sacrificially to this effort. You have invested in the work of the Kingdom and God will richly reward you.

Also, Brian Riley volunteered to get the lettering put on the van. Thank you Brian and Holly for your generosity.

God is so Good! He always provides!!! Never forget that!

Are You Being A Good Example?

I read this poem this afternoon that reminded me to always be a good example to my daughter.

”I lost a very little word

   just the other day,

It was a very naughty word

I had not meant to say.

But then, it was not really lost

When from my lips it flew,

My little daughter picked it up

And now she says it, too.”

Out of the mouths of babes comes words their parents wich they had never said.

We teach by example.

The parent who preaches one thing and practices another is sending mixed signals to the child, and this very often leads to confusion.

It’s more than a cliche’ to say a child won’t believe everything you say, but he will believe everything you do.

Be a good example!

Rest For Your Soul

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30)

This is good news for any of us who ever feel stressed, stretched, anxious, weighed down, nervous, overloaded, or whatever word we use to describe ourselves when we don’t think we can handle life. I think that’s all of us.

The problem is universal. We labor and are heavy laden. For whatever reason, life is becoming increasingly difficult. Sure, we’re trying, but not making much progress. The kids still aren’t obeying, your schedule is still jam-packed, the boss can’t be pleased, everyone wants something from you, and no one notices your Herculean efforts to hold everything together.

In the midst of our struggles, Jesus promises rest for our souls. I don’t think many people in our society experience the kind of rest Jesus promises, although everyone wants it. We pursue it in all the wrong places – sports, recreation, possessions, computers, TV  and movies – and end up as empty and troubled as when we began our search.

We can all identify with the problem, and are eager to enjoy the promised relief. However, few of us are willing to submit to the path Jesus lays out. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.”

In essence, Jesus says, “Become like me – gentle and humble.” The road to inner peace involves acknowledging that the root of our turmoil and stress is not other people, but our demanding pride. We insist we can handle our problems on our own. We’ll endure the stress if we can just get the credit. We avoid all blame and just hope this season, too, shall pass.

There’s only one problem. If the situation changes, God will be faithful to provide another one that exposes our self-sufficiency. He doesn’t want us to prove we can make it on our own, but that we are utterly dependent on Him. He won’t give rest to those who seek it apart from the Savior.

So if you’re feeling weighed down by life, take on the yoke of the Savior – gentleness and humility of heart. He is not only our best example for it, but our only source for it.

Think of others more highly than yourself. Seek counsel and help from those around you. Serve the needs of others. Confess your sinful desire to impress. Acknowledge your weaknesses, and trust God for strength to complete your responsibilities with joy and faith.

And experience the Savior’s easy yoke and light burden. It’s his promise to those who realize they are but little children in the care of their gracious heavenly Father.

Top Ten Ways To Make Sure Guests Don’t Come Back

10) Never ask a guest’s name. If you somehow discover it, certainly don’t call them by name. You don’t want to get too friendly on the first visit.

 9) Never sit near or beside a guest at church. If they look uncomfortable or lonely, don’t worry. It’s not your responsibility.

8) Look generally miserable. Frown often. Make it obvious that church is a serious thing and smiles are inappropriate.

7) Hallways should be empty when guest arrive. You mustn’t overwhelm them, after all. Guests can discover their own route to worship or class.

6) Don’t invite a guest to your Sunday School class of church events. You don’t want to appear too forward. Never invite a guest to lunch with you.

 5) Sit at the end of the pew, allowing guest to climb over you. Reserve seats for friends and hold your ground if a guest tries to infringe. If a guest is seated there when you arrive, firmly let them know it’s your pew. Your comfort is more important than making it easy on unchurched guests.

4) Tell the guest how many years you have been a member of the church. Point out that many church members are related. That way he’ll clearly understand that he will always be an outsider here.

3) Count the ceiling tiles during worship. Eat mints. Look at your watch often. Write a grocery list. Take a nap. Don’t sing or open a Bible or take sermon notes. Whisper loudly to your kids and allow them to roam in and out of the service at their leisure.

2) Snort softly if a guest arrives late. Roll your eyes if his child wiggles. If a guest is dressed inappropriately, just shake your head. Generally ignore the guest if his skin color or social status does not match yours.

1) During the invitation, gather your personal belongings. Feel free to to leave during the invitation, since you have important things waiting. If a guest is considering making a decision for Christ, he’ll probably make it whether you’re there or not.

Please note: If our church truly wants to reach total strangers for Jesus Christ, consider doing the exact opposite of these ten instructions.

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday Morning,

Chris

I’m Back From Vacation

Yes, I’m back from vacation and I had a wonderful time in sunny South Daytona Beach Florida.
We got back yesterday around 5:15 P.M. and we were even able to make it to church last night. Tom Pharis brought a great message on prayer.

I want to say thanks to Kyle for preaching for me yesterday morning. I’m sure he did a marvelous job of preaching the Word.

I’m looking forward to seeing you this Wednesday Night for supper at six o’clock and seven o’clock for Bible study.

The Sacred Now

This very moment that you now inhabit is a sacred moment, the Sacred Now. It is a holy gift entrusted to you by God.

This moment, this heartbeat, is in your hands, and you may do with it what you will – but once it is spent, you will never get it back.

Someone once said, ”Most of us spend our lives as if we had another one in the bank.”

Is that the way you’ve been living your life? Have you been letting life slip away from you as you marked time, killed time, wasted time?

Every second of your life is irreversible. Every heartbeat is irreplaceable. Every Sacred Now is an opportunity that, once lost, will never come again.

Don’t waste your life. Invest your life in the Sacred Now!

A SLOW BLOG DAY

I’m sorry but this is all I have had time for today:

Quote of the Day: ”Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and it annoys the pig.” Howard Stevenson

 What a great quote!

Enjoy Life!

TONY SNOW BATTLES CANCER
Tony Snow, popular White House Press Secretary, will soon begin chemotherapy for a cancer recurrence.

Snow, 51, has been on medical leave since March 27. Snow had his colon removed in 2005 and underwent six months of chemotherapy then.

Speaking at his alma mater, Davidson College, April 28th, he said in a question/answer session that he has become closer to God and his family because of the cancer. “I am actually enjoying everything more than I ever have. God hasn’t promised us tomorrow, but He has promised us eternity.” (Associated Press, 4-30)

Snow’s faith in Christ is well known. He is experiencing what countless believers have experienced when they battle cancer. Jesus Christ is with them. And, they win. Either now or later!

No matter what you’re going through right now, let it bring you closer to the Lord, and always remember to enjoy life.

”Trust in God who gives us all things richly to enjoy.” 1 Timothy 6:17

How Are You Investing Your Time?

Good Morning,

In the book of 1 John, John is telling us why he wrote this book. He was about to warn us about the world and its influence upon us. He is calling us to look at where we are spiritually, and where we need to invest our time as Christians.

1 John 2: 12-14:I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake. I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is  from the begining. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.”

Spiritual Stage #1: Little Children. John refers to us as children due to our spiritual maturity, not necessarily our chronological age. As children, we need to invest our time in growing in the faith and being discipled.

Spiritual Stage #2: Young Men. As a young person in the faith, we are not yet fully mature, but we at least know how to handle God’s Word effectively in getting us through life victoriously. As a young man or young woman in the faith, we should spend our time in continuing to grow, discipling others, and being mentored.

Spriritual Stage #3: Fathers. This refers to those who have a deep, intimate personal knowledge of God. They know God, but also know the dangers of the world, realizing they can still be drowned in it. Spiritual fathers need to continue to invest their time in maturing, and mentoring others.

Time is running out. Where are you spending your time? Where do you need to be spending your time? Where will you invest the time you have left on earth?
