God Is In Control

“The financial markets are His. The world is His. I don’t know why it took me 35 years to get this, but I finally have.”

-Chuck Colson in an article entitled “God and Wall Street.” (Christian Post, 9-18)

Chuck is commenting about the troubling series of events on Wall Street in recent days. He adds, “Here’s something else to remember: God often uses adversity for His greatest blessings.”

True. I’m no financial expert. But, I do know God is in charge- even of Wall Street. So, we must not let the things we don’t know shake the things we do know.

Banking On Jesus

“Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.’’ Matthew 7:24

1. Jesus cautioned us not to invest in those things that will eventually become moth-eaten, rusted, or stolen Matthew 6:19.
2. He counseled us to avoid the anxiety that is generated by the endless pursuits of material things Matthew 6:25.
3. He challenged us to utilize our resources in making spiritual investments that will pay eternal dividends Matthew 6:20.
4. He reminded us that our hearts follow our treasures and we become ‘attached’ to what we spend our money on Matthew 6:21.
5. He warned us of the foolishness of placing our trust and security in what we’ve been able to accumulate Luke 12:16-21.
6. He promised us that when we establish/maintain spiritual priorities, all our needs will be met Matthew 6:33.

Here is the bottom line… We have a choice. We can heed the word of Jesus and know the joy of being liberated from the exhausting drive for wealth and material goods. Or we can decide that E.F. Hutton, Merrill Lynch and Dean Witter provide better counsel for our happiness and security. Personally, I’m banking on Jesus.

Revival

Last night we started our Cottage Prayer Meetings for our upcoming revival and we spent quality time asking God to revive us personally. Next Thursday night we will be at Peyton and Brandi Zeagler’s home at 7:00 P.M. I pray that you will be able to join us.

The Bible teaches clearly and repeatedly that God wants to revive our relationship with Him.

Revival is renewed interest after a period of indifference and decline.

He wants to wake us up, to refresh our faith – to fire us up again.

Psalm 119:107 ”I am afflicted very much; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your Word.”

Revival involves an increased hunger for and delight in God’s Word after a difficult season of life. You may be going through a time of difficulty right now and may be thinking that revival in your life is impossible. But it’s not! The Psalmist clearly tells us that revival can take place in our lives in seasons of difficulty.

Psalm 119:37 ”Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things and revive me in Your way.”

This may be a season of disobedience for you. You are running from God. Well, revival involves a disdain for sin and renewed desire for obedience to God.

Psalm 80:18 ”Then we will not turn back from You; revive us, and we will call upon Your name.”

Revival brings increased commitment to and interest in personal prayer.

Join us as we pray for God to revive us again!

Because of Him,

Chris
